Sam Greenwell

Sam Greenwell grew up in Versailles Ky, and currently lives in Lexington. He made his way to a career in art in a not terribly typical way. He got his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky in Russian and East European studies. After that he went on to UK Law where he received his Juris Doctorate. Realizing the practice of law just wasn't for him, he started working in the toy industry, mostly sculpting action figures for Marvel and DC comics.

Sam worked in the toy and collectible industry for over 30 years and just recently decided to focus on larger, one-of-a-kind sculptures primarily constructed out of cardboard.

His background in toys and the comic industry is what guides a lot of his design choices. His cardboard sculptures often feature an amalgamation of fish and other wildlife and abandoned buildings. They have a feeling of lost worlds and abandoned places.
